WAKE UP YOUR FACE

By Lisa Doherty

As I write this article, it is two oclock in the morning and I am unable to sleep with a 10 hour work day ahead of me. So instead of tossing, turning, and obsessively glancing at my alarm clock, I figured that I should turn my insomnia into a positive inspiration by writing my next makeup article on how to rejuvenate a tired face.

Whether it is work, studying, a crying baby, worries, or a late night on the town that has left you looking drawn and drab, you can add a bit of illusion to your face that will hide those tired bags, dark circles and red eyes. Here are some tips on how to wake up a tired face.

Yellow Concealer  Ever wonder what all those strange concealer colours are for? The hue of yellow concealer counteracts the dark circles under our eyes. So if you naturally have the racoon eye appearance, this product is a must have. Since the yellow can stand out against your skin, it is wise to apply it before your foundation.

Curl your lashes  Curling your lashes immediately illuminated your face and opens up the eyes. It is important to remember to always curl your lashes before you apply mascara.

Say no to red or purple  Some eye products have hints of red in them. Red on the eyes gives the appearance of looking tired or ill. Examples rusty brown and maroon. Purple eye shadows tend to accentuate dark circles and can make your eyes look smaller.

Highlighting  Highlighting allows certain areas of your face to stand out. Using a highlighting shadow or cream can wake up your eyes instantly. These colours tend to be very light such as white, ivory or light pink. For the full effect, apply the highlighter directly under the brow bone, lightly on your cheek bones, and most importantly, on the inner corner of your eyes.

Smudge your liner  Smudging your liner (within reason) can conceal puffy eyes. Keeping in mind that concealing means to hide, therefore softer shades like a warm brown are better to use as they gently hide the inflammation. Black liners can accentuate those dreaded dark circles.

So if the cold cucumbers and coffee in the morning are not helping to get rid of your tired eyes, create your own facelift by pulling out your makeup case.
